Strong protection is the part of The Blocker Pro that reaches beyond Safari. It uses Apple’s Screen Time on your own iPhone to block adult sites — Apple’s adult filter plus up to 50 sites you block yourself — in Chrome, Firefox, every other browser and in links you open inside apps like Instagram or X. It can also stop The Blocker from being deleted, keep apps you choose closed, and lock every website for one hour at a hard moment.
Written by the developer of The Blocker. Every detail here comes from the app itself (version 2.9), checked 21 October 2026.
Why Safari blocking isn’t enough on its own
The free app is a Safari content blocker. Safari applies its rules before a page loads, and they also work in apps that open pages in a Safari view. But Chrome, Firefox and the built-in browsers of apps like Instagram don’t read Safari’s rules. One link opened from a social app, or one other browser, and the wall has a door in it.
Strong protection closes those doors with the same system that runs Apple’s own Limit Adult Websites setting: a Screen Time web filter that iOS itself enforces, not a Safari extension.
What it does
- Every browser. Adult sites stay blocked in Chrome, Firefox and any other browser you install. The filter is Apple’s automatic adult-content filter plus up to 50 of your own blocked sites.
- Links inside apps. Pages you open from apps like Instagram or X are covered too.
- Can’t delete The Blocker. On by default when you turn Strong protection on. In the app’s words: “While this is on, The Blocker can’t be deleted from this iPhone.”
- Blocked apps. Pick apps in Apple’s app picker; they stay closed while Strong protection is on.
- Hard moment. One button, “Lock everything for 1 hour”: every website and your blocked apps stay blocked for an hour. It can’t be ended early from the app.
How to turn it on
- Get The Blocker and set up Safari blocking (the app walks you through it).
- With Pro, tap Block every browser and app on Home, or open Settings › Strong protection.
- Approve Apple’s Screen Time sheet with Face ID or your passcode. This uses Apple’s Family Controls for your own device.
- Switch on Strong protection. The status line changes to “On in every browser and app”.
If you buy Pro during setup, the app asks for Screen Time right after the purchase.
Make it truly locked
Strong protection lives in Screen Time, so Screen Time’s passcode is the real lock. The app’s own guide suggests asking someone you trust to set a Screen Time passcode on your iPhone — and, when iOS offers passcode recovery with an Apple Account, to skip it. Then even you can’t switch things off in a weak moment.
Inside the app, Pro’s Delay to unblock (10, 30 or 60 seconds; Off until you choose it) also applies when you turn off Strong protection or Can’t delete The Blocker, so turning them off can’t happen on impulse. More in how to make a porn blocker hard to turn off.
Private by design
The apps and sites you pick stay on your iPhone as private Screen Time tokens that The Blocker itself can’t read, and nothing about them is sent anywhere. Apple’s Family Controls is never used for ad blocking. If you leave the app’s anonymous usage sharing on, it can record a step such as “Strong protection turned on” — never an app or a website; you can turn sharing off in Settings.
What it can’t do
- It filters web pages, not feeds. Posts and videos inside an app’s own feed aren’t filtered. To keep an app away altogether, add it to Blocked apps.
- Outside Safari it uses Apple’s adult filter and up to 50 of your sites. Categories, keyword rules, schedules, ad lists and the Always Allow list work in Safari only.
- Screen Time access can be switched off. If that happens in iOS Settings, the app shows “Strong protection is paused” until you turn it on again — another reason for a passcode someone else keeps.
- It’s part of Pro. If Pro ends, Strong protection turns off; Safari blocking keeps working.
- It isn’t a parental control. It restricts the iPhone it runs on, for the person who uses it. For a child’s phone, see how to block porn on a child’s iPhone.
Pro is $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $49.99 once in the US; the App Store shows your local price. See Free and Pro.
Questions people ask
Does Strong protection work in Chrome?
Yes. It uses Apple’s Screen Time web filter, which iOS applies in every browser, so adult sites and up to 50 of your own blocked sites stay blocked in Chrome, Firefox and others.
Does it use a VPN or change my DNS?
No. The Blocker has no VPN or DNS filtering. Strong protection uses Apple’s Screen Time on your device.
Can I end a Hard moment early?
Not from the app: once you start it, every website and your blocked apps stay blocked for one hour.
Is there a free version of Strong protection?
No, it is part of The Blocker Pro. The free app blocks adult sites in Safari, with a 30-day challenge, a rescue page and up to 10 sites of your own.
