The 30-day challenge is free inside The Blocker. You pick a start day and, if you like, a short reason. The app counts clean days, sends a quiet check-in on days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30, and if you slip, it marks that day and keeps going — you never go back to day one. With the optional Stats extension on, a blocked site in Safari turns into a calm rescue page.
Written by the developer of The Blocker. Every detail here comes from the app itself (version 2.9), checked 21 October 2026. The challenge is a self-help tool, not treatment.
Joining takes one screen
- Where: the challenge card on Home (shown once Safari blocking works), or Settings › 30-day challenge.
- When: start today, or on a fresh-start day in the next week — the 1st of a month, a Monday, 1 January, 1 November or the start of Ramadan, whichever comes first.
- Why: an optional reason of up to 80 characters, or a quick chip: “For my family”, “For my faith” or “For my focus”. It is shown to you at the hard moment.
Quiet check-ins
If you allow notifications, the app checks in at 7 pm your time on days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30 — short lines like “One week 🌿 · Open the app to see your progress.” They never mention porn, urges, slips or the challenge, so a lock screen stays private.
A slip never sends you back to zero
Most counters punish one bad night by wiping weeks of work. This one doesn’t. When you tap I slipped, that day is marked and isn’t a clean day, and your current run starts again — but the challenge day keeps going and your clean days stay. The app says it plainly: “One day doesn’t erase the others.” Three optional one-tap questions (when, where, how you felt) help you spot your pattern; you can skip them.
Your progress screen shows Day N of 30, your clean days and percentage, your longest run and a 30-day strip. If a slip just happened, read what to do after a relapse.
The rescue page, at the hard moment
Turn on the optional The Blocker Stats extension in Safari (with “Allow on Every Website”). Then, while you’re in the challenge, a blocked site in Safari is replaced by a calm page titled “Take a breath”:
- usually “This urge is a wave. It will pass.” with a breathing circle — in for 4 seconds, out for 6;
- between midnight and 5 am, “It’s late — tired minds give in.” and a nudge to sleep;
- after 3 or more blocked attempts in 10 minutes, “The wave is high right now.” and a 10-minute countdown to put the phone down.
It also shows your day, your clean days, your reason and how many times you said no this month, with a Close this tab button. Late nights are their own problem: see porn urges at night.
When the 30 days end
You see your result — clean days out of 30 — and can start another 30 days with the same reason. Leave challenge deletes your progress from the iPhone.
What stays private
Your start day, reason, slips and answers are stored on your iPhone. If the app’s anonymous usage sharing is on, it can send a step such as “joined” or “slipped” with the day number only — never your reason, your answers or any site. You can turn sharing off in Settings.
Where Pro fits
The challenge stays free. Pro adds tools some people pair with it: Smart insights (your riskiest two-hour window and top triggers), a reminder 15 minutes before that risky time, a delay to unblock, and Strong protection for every browser and a one-hour Hard moment lock. The app never shows Pro on the rescue page or after a slip.
Get The Blocker and join from Home once Safari blocking is on.
Questions people ask
Is the 30-day challenge free?
Yes. The challenge and the Safari rescue page are free in The Blocker.
What happens if I slip?
That day is marked as a slip and your current run restarts, but the challenge keeps counting and your clean days stay. You never go back to day one.
Why don’t I see the rescue page?
It needs two things: you joined the challenge, and the optional The Blocker Stats extension is on in Safari with “Allow on Every Website”. It works in Safari only.
Do the reminders say what they are about?
No. Check-ins on days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30 use neutral lines like “Three weeks 🌿 · Almost there.” and never mention porn, urges or slips.
